What Makes Us Unique?

Champion Staff

Our staff has achieved the pinnacle of debate success, from national championships to state and local championships. A good debater doesn’t necessarily mean you are a good instructor, but our staff is vetted and armed with extensive debate experience, from coaching middle school students to leading their high school team to national recognition. However, what makes our staff unique is that they’ve attended nearly every major debate camp across the country which typically costs thousands of dollars. Through our experience, we’ve learned what teaching methods work best for students and what concepts are most important for them to learn. We’ve combined the best aspects of most pricy camps into our unique curriculum. Our instruction is low cost, but our instructors’ knowledge is priceless.

A Community

Networking is a big part of debate, which other camps don’t teach. Instead of promoting competition, we aim at building a community for all debaters. Debaters are paired up with a mentor during camp who they can keep in touch with for the rest of the year. Debaters are invited to prep together and form prep groups in our Advocate Debate Discord, where they can network and create lasting friendships in debate.

Equity and Inclusion

Debate can often be an exclusive, toxic environment for women and marginalized groups. Advocate strives to end the gender disparity in debate events and focus on upllifting marginalized groups, such as Black and LatinX individuals. Unlike any other camp on the market, our curriculum also heavily focuses on arguments that can help marginalized groups combat oppression in the debate space and explore their own identity. Our camp also focuses on the mental health aspect of debate, which is just as important as the competitive part. Our lectures are geared on helping debaters achieve long term success, and not burn out.
